Has LeBron Got a Quadruple-Double? The Surprising Truth

What Even Is a Quadruple-Double?

Okay, quick refresher in case you're not deep in NBA lingo: a quadruple-double means a player gets double digits (10 or more) in four major stat categories — points, rebounds, assists, steals, or blocks — all in one game.

Sounds insane? That’s because it is.

I mean, we talk about triple-doubles like candy nowadays (thanks to guys like Russ and Luka), but quadruple-doubles? That’s a whole different beast.

So... Has LeBron Ever Done It?

Nope. Not officially.

Let me just rip the Band-Aid off — LeBron James has never recorded a quadruple-double in an NBA game.

Yeah, I know. It shocked me too the first time I looked it up.

I was watching a Lakers game last year with my cousin Matt — he’s a total LeBron stan — and Bron was going off. He had like 27 points, 11 assists, 9 rebounds and 3 steals heading into the 4th. Matt was like, “Bro, he might pull off a quadruple-double tonight.” I googled it on the spot.

Nope. Never done it. Not once.

But... How Close Has He Gotten?

He’s flirted with it. HARD.

LeBron’s been super close a handful of times. Like within spitting distance.

Take this one game in 2009 against the Nuggets — he dropped 43 points, 13 rebounds, 15 assists... and 4 steals. FOUR. That’s like... one sneaky swipe away from the elusive quad.

And I’m sure there are other nights where he had 2 blocks or 3 steals and came close. But either the rebounds fall short, or the steals don’t show up. Something always slips just out of reach.

It’s kind of wild when you think about it, because if anyone had the tools, it’s LeBron. He’s got the court vision, the strength, the speed, the basketball IQ. He could have done it. Heck, he probably almost did a few times when stat tracking wasn’t perfect (early career stuff, you know?).

Wait, Who Has Gotten a Quadruple-Double Then?

Only a tiny handful of NBA legends

This is where things get spicy.

Only four players in NBA history have officially recorded a quadruple-double:

  • Nate Thurmond (1974): 22 pts, 14 rebs, 13 asts, 12 blks

  • Alvin Robertson (1986): 20 pts, 11 rebs, 10 asts, 10 steals

  • Hakeem Olajuwon (1990): 18 pts, 16 rebs, 10 asts, 11 blks

  • David Robinson (1994): 34 pts, 10 rebs, 10 asts, 10 blks

That’s it. Four guys. That’s rarer than a perfect bracket or Bigfoot in flip-flops.

Honestly, I thought Kobe might have done it. Or MJ. But nope. It’s that rare.

Could LeBron Still Do It?

Never say never... but it’s unlikely now

Look, I love LeBron. I grew up watching him torch my team, and I still respect the hell outta the guy.

But he’s 39. He’s smarter with his energy now. He’s managing minutes. He’s not out here trying to rack up blocks and steals like a madman. He’s focused on winning, longevity, legacy.

Could he pull it off in a random playoff game? Maybe. If the stars align, and he’s locked in on both ends? You never count the King out.

But realistically? I think the window has passed.

Final Thoughts (a little personal, if you don’t mind)

Honestly, I kind of love that he hasn’t done it. It shows you just how ridiculously rare a quadruple-double is. Even one of the greatest players to ever touch a basketball hasn’t checked that box.

And you know what? That’s fine.

LeBron’s legacy isn’t missing anything. He’s got the rings, the MVPs, the scoring title, the triple-doubles, the clutch plays, the leadership — the whole freakin’ package. A quadruple-double would be icing, sure, but... no one’s forgetting him without it.

Still, if he ever did pull one off before he retires... man, that would break the internet. And I’d be here for it.
I’d frame the box score. No joke.
