What Teams Do Famous People Support? Celebs and Their Unexpected Allegiances

Why Are We So Obsessed With Celebrity Sports Fandom?

Let’s face it — there’s something oddly comforting about knowing Beyoncé watches sports just like the rest of us. Maybe it’s the idea that, no matter how rich or famous someone is, they still scream at referees or suffer through extra time like any other die-hard fan. Celebrities, they’re (sorta) just like us, right?

But the teams they choose to support? Sometimes predictable. Sometimes totally bonkers.

Football (Soccer): The Celeb Game of Choice

British Celebs and Their Premier League Love

  • Adele – Hardcore Tottenham Hotspur fan. Born in Tottenham, still loyal despite the club’s ups and (many) downs. She's joked about needing a glass of wine after their matches. Who can blame her?

  • Daniel Craig (yes, Bond)Liverpool. And not in a bandwagon-y way. He’s spoken about watching the Reds since childhood. Pretty classy, tbh.

  • Idris ElbaArsenal. Though, in one interview he said being a Gooner is "a test of patience and character." Ouch.

  • Prince William – Interestingly, he supports Aston Villa. His reason? He didn’t want to "follow the pack" and chose a team with history and heart. That, and he liked the kit as a kid.

American Stars Jumping In

  • DrakeChelsea FC, Barcelona, Manchester United, Man City… okay, look, we’re not really sure. Drake supports whoever is winning that week. Certified bandwagon behavior.

  • Tom HanksAston Villa again! He apparently just liked the name at first, then fell into the fandom. Weird flex, but it stuck.

Other Sports: Basketball, Baseball & Beyond

NBA: Where Stars Cheer for Stars

  • Jack NicholsonLos Angeles Lakers, obviously. He’s basically part of the furniture at courtside. Has been yelling at refs since the '80s.

  • Spike LeeNew York Knicks. Painful choice. He’s loyal to a fault — honestly deserves a medal for enduring the heartbreak year after year.

  • Rihanna – Seen courtside at Brooklyn Nets games, but she also cheers for Golden State Warriors now and then. Let’s just say… she's flexible.

MLB & NFL: All-American Passions

  • Ben AffleckBoston Red Sox. Like, aggressively. He reportedly refused to wear a Yankees cap even for a movie role. Respect.

  • Jay-ZNew York Yankees, big time. Also formerly co-owned part of the Brooklyn Nets, so his sports loyalties run deep.

  • Matthew McConaugheyWashington Football Team in the NFL (yeah, still awkward), but more recently he's been all in with Austin FC in the MLS. Dude’s even part-owner.

Some Unexpected Ones That’ll Make You Go “Wait, What?”

  • Snoop DoggBurnley. Yep, the rapper from Long Beach supports a scrappy English team from Lancashire. Apparently he liked the logo. That’s it. And yet... it feels kinda perfect?

  • Sylvester StalloneEverton. He’s even been to Goodison Park. No, really. There’s a picture.

  • Margot RobbieFulham FC. Why? Nobody knows. But she’s been photographed in the shirt, and that’s all we need.

Final Thoughts: Do Celebs Actually Care?

Sometimes. Some celebs are lifelong supporters who grew up crying into their scarves. Others... well, let’s just say they know where the camera is. But in the end, it’s kind of cool seeing someone like Ed Sheeran wearing an Ipswich Town shirt on stage. Or Snoop in a Burnley kit.

Fandom isn’t always logical. It’s emotional. Random. And yeah, sometimes it’s just a vibe.

So next time your team loses horribly, remember: maybe Adele’s crying in her living room too.
